Injuries are part of the game. What your saying about her ankle problems is a weakness in her arsenal. Look at a few of the true greats and you notice few injuries: Sampras, Agassi, Federer, Laver, Lendl, Connors, Rosewall, Edberg, Graf, Rafter, Navratilova, Evert, Borg (no physical issues), Seles (only issue was the stabbing), etc.

As far as Nadal, we’ll have to see how injuries will shorten his career.

Bottom line, Hingis had a fragile body and that should be counted against her.

I meant the top 30 men’s college players.

From what I have seen, it would be a good match of the top 30 men vs. top 30 women. But the big wild card is the serve. For some reason, men serve much bigger than women, may be do to physiology, don’t know. The top 30 women may strike the ball better than the top 30 men. But from what I have seen, the top 30 college men would win strictly because of the serve. It is not fair to women that the serve is such an issue, but like it or not, it is a part of the game.

I know we had the debate about men players vs. women players. I just came back from the Cincy women’s tourney. I was very impressed with how well the women strike the ball (more top than I expected) and their touch. But I expected more from their serving. In fact, there high 4.5 and 5.0 men players with bigger serves than any that I saw today. You had indicated that the top 30 women players would beat the top 30 college players. cont’d.

Drama Queen?? Less you forget Baby Hingis was the BIGGEST Drama Queen in Tennis History! Rmbr French Open Final 1999 when she was raped by Steffi Graf… Cry Baby Supreme! Only Roger Federer could rival her for tears. She retired early not coz of injuries, bcoz other top players were continually raping her, especially in the Slams. Her heart couldn’t take it any more. If her ‘touch’ was SOOO good why didn’t she beat the big guns after 1999? In this video alone she misses easy passes!

Actually, let me correct myself. Other than Henin, no one had better touch on the ball than Hingis.

lol. Stop with the selective memory and drama queen embellishments, Galactus247. Hingis had unrivaled touch and could place the ball better than any other player I’ve ever seen, and when HEALTHY, she had no problems holding her own against those that tried to out-muscle her. What brought her down and severely cut short her career were her ankle injuries. She retired at 22! She hadn’t even reached her physical prime. If it wasn’t for injuries, she’d have many more GS titles under her belt.

Hingis belongs to the GREATS?? Hell No! She came into the game at the right time; Graaf was injured, Seles wasn’t the same again, Capriati just started her comeback, Davenport & the Williams just getting started! When ALL of the above got their game together, Hingis was BOUNCED from pillar to post and didn’t win another grand slam in sight and to make matters worse, a bit later, Hennin, Clisjsters, Muresmo just made it Damn Impossible. Great? No, no, no, but lucky!

Oh Serena could beat male players alright.
They look up, see the sloped forehead and run for their lives and she wins by forfeit.

you know i think you are right…..Hingis was the last finesse perfect technique player….then the game changed to pure power but i much prefer the game now…its more exciting…and i think the williams sister are lethal when they blend power and technique

i think HINGIS belongs to one of the greats!! except she is probably at the bottom of the pack..
her era was the end of classic thinking tennis..

she was on her way down while the williams sisters ushered in the new era of power tennis (w/ only little technique)

serena couldn’t even beat collegiate level male players.. even then it would prob be 6-0, 6-0 for the men.

HIngis will be grouped with Capriati. Also with Darryl Strawberry, Lawrence Taylor, Steve Howe, Len Bias, Chris “Birdman” Andersen, Josh Hamilton, and other extraordinarily talented athletes who have abused hard drugs.

It’s true but Hingis is my favorite one.Her technique and read the game very clearly. She knows how to beat Williams sisters, her problem is only metal when she got stress.

Just to clarify. Do you believe Serena Williams could beat the number 200 male player in the world?

Or do you believe she could beat the number 100 male player in the world?

I saw your comment that Serena could beat the majority of ATP players. This is the most ridiculous and absurd comment I have ever heard.

How will history view Martina Hingis – overachiever or underachiever. Will she stand next to the all-time greats of Suzanne Lenglen, Althea Gibson, Billy Jean King, Margaret Court, Evonne Goolagog, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Hana Mandlikoa, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Serena Williams, Justine Henin?
Or will she be in the next tier Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams, Aranta Sanchez Vicario, Mary Pierce, Kim Clijsters, Jana Novota, Gabriela Sabatini, etc.

I think Davenport is hard to judge.

I think an even better indication of the increased depth in WTA, even within the past three years, is the huge amount of upsets that happen in Slams. It used to be the underdog NEVER won in women’s tennis-now it almost happens more than often. There is a surge of young ladies that are steadily taking over. And sharapova just returned this week in Warsaw, where shes won twice. She had a soldier injury. I like maria, she has added a lot of variety to her game recently and she strikes the ball well
