So, why did Steffi quit before the 1999 U.S. Open?

Steffi didn’t have to face the Russians, Justine, Kimmy C, Ana I, Jelena J, Amelie, and so on.

The age may have been “tender” but the rest, it was like playing against a man LOL

Difference being that Feddy already leads Sampras 15-14 in slam titles. While Serena trails Steffi 11-22 …

It’s interesting this reminds me of the time Federer beat Sampras when he was only a teenager. Serena did the exact same thing to Graf at only the tender age of seventeen.

Hats off to Serena! Serena said she was in pain in the match but decided to play ‘through it’ to win. What a mark of a true Champion! So many players get an ache or two and decide to retire from the match. Serena is made of sterner stuff and 10 years later with 11 Grand Slams rising and nowhere near yet finished (with a few of those years away from the game), she has proved to be up there with the VERY BEST in history! & the BEST could still be yet to come!!

Wow! What great footage, 1999 was a very memorable year for tennis. Steffi won Paris open & was runner up at Wimbledon and was the ‘one’ to beat. Sports have their moments in history where the ‘TORCH’ is passed from one Great Player to the next Great one! This match was that moment> Steffi Graaf passing the TORCH to Serena Williams. (In mens, Sampras passed to Federer in Wimbledon 2001). Both at their BEST, would Serena beat Steffi? I KNOW SO! Here, Graaf should have beaten young ‘Green’ Serena!

Obviously, a nigger like you with heroes like O J Simpson and Serena Williams (and on top of that you are gay!), would believe any nonsense that your very small brain can think of. Keep living in your ugly fake world..

Why were those damn people in Indian Wells whistling when Serena threw her racquet up and jumped in celebration? She just beat a great champion, what do they expect? I knew it would only be a matter of time before those racist people out there would cross the line and the sisters don’t play there anymore.

I believe so. And that wasn’t a one-off. Lori McNeil also beat Steffi in straight sets at the Virginia Slims YEC in ‘92.

Didn’t Lori McNeil knock out Steffi Graf in the 1st round of Wimbledon 94 ? I am quite sure she did..

Yeah leave it to an idiot like him to actually believe that it’s still all Nadal/Federer (while Nadal is injured, and Federer has the worst records ever against Djokovic and Murray).

And he will say anything possible to make graf look better….actually suggesting that the aforementioned players are actually THAT good.
Graf was heads and shoulders above those girls because they were terrible players. Graf was born 15 years too early. She’d have retired with 10-12 had she played now.

“There were only two women I even gave consideration to for the title of the greatest female tennis player of all-time.

One would be my favorite female tennis player ever, Steffi Graf, and the other would be the woman I actually selected as the greatest of all-time, Martina Navratilova. Both were outstanding players in their prime, but for me, the level of competition that Navratilova faced throughout her career was much more formidable than that of Graf’s era.” Associated Content Sports

Can you not? Well, imagine this. A grown up Graf loses 4 of 15 meetings with journeywoman Coetzer who Navratilova never lost a set to.

I can’t imagine a grown-up Graf losing THREE times against a journeywoman like Shriver.

Court has 24 slams and a grand slam. So why not GOAT?
What I hear from you is an argument I agree with, that she faced weaker competition in AOs. I apply the same argument to Graf: she faced weaker competition in the mid 90s with her top rival illegally removed.

Re: Shriver, 1 in 9 is a higher winning rate than 1 in 14. Conclusion: Shriver was tougher competition for Graf than she was for Navratilova.
